TO: The Members, Board of Directors and Executive Committee

Dear Friends:

I would like to personally thank each and every one of you for choosing me to serve as the President of the Atlanta Chapter of MCA-I once again. It is my conviction that MCA- I presents a unique opportunity for media professionals within Atlanta to further develop their careers and personal potentialities. Devoting ones time to contribute to worthwhile causes and purposes without thought of self-gain is one of the highest aims individuals can aspire too. While this may sound rhetorical for some of us, I would like to ask that you consider the following paraphrase, from Emerson’s Universal Law of Compensation: ...A perfect equity adjusts its balance in all parts of life. Every act, whether good or bad, rewards itself in a twofold manner; first in the thing, and secondly in the circumstance. Cause and effect, means and ends, seed and fruit, cannot be severed; for the effect already blooms in the cause, the end preexists in the means.

My interpretation of this essay is that by giving freely and unselfishly of ones time and energy, that we must realize a direct (or indirect) benefit, and even more importantly that this law is inviolable. By deliberately choosing to help further the purposes of a good cause; one cannot help but realize personal benefits and gain. While the benefits will not always be monetary, they most assuredly will be significant and noteworthy to the personal and spiritual development of the individual.

MCA-I has a rich history in Atlanta serving the needs of media professionals. We can make MCA-I our professional membership, and a place where we can go with confidence that our peers will support us, as we support them. I challenge each and every one of you to take personal responsibility to make MCA-I the very best that it can be. Make a commitment to invest your time and effort into furthering the initiatives and achieving the objectives of the organization, and you will be rewarded in measures of personal fulfillment that only unselfish acts can bring to fruition. Doing little things each day, and even one small thing; when a large group of people are inspired to do so, are the acts that will give the organization a mighty and unstoppable momentum. Today is the day – do something for MCA-I today.

My goal for the organization in 2010 is to increase membership by 25%, to continue to schedule meetings at interesting and fun locations, and to include stimulating programs at the meetings. Moreover our new Board will assist me to insure that we expand and increase our membership by 25% – please tell your friends about MCA-I – let’s make MCA-I the top organization in Atlanta for media professionals.
